Teacher Guide
The end-to-end workflow, start to finish — what to expect if you join as a BETA tester.
This walks through everything from getting access to a course through to monitoring how your students are doing — in the order you'll actually use it.
1. Course licence 2. Class & students 3. Schedule 4. Content release 5. Live lessons 6. Progress 7. Library activities
You are testing dAIologue while it is still in active development. Courses are requested and approved rather than purchased — every section below flags the BETA-specific quirks worth knowing about.
1. Getting Access to a Course
Before you can create a class, you need a licence for the course you want to teach. In BETA this is a request-and-approval process, not a purchase.
There is no payment or checkout system yet. Every course licence — your first one and any after it — is granted either automatically (your very first course only) or by an admin approving a request. Nothing is charged to a card or invoiced during BETA.
Your first course
If you have not been granted any course yet, your Home screen shows a one-time course catalogue. Tap any course tile and it's granted to your account immediately — no waiting on approval. This only works once: as soon as you hold one licence, this instant option disappears and every further course goes through the request process below.
Requesting additional courses
1
Open the Syllabus tab in the left sidebar.
2
Find the course you want — browse to it, or use the floating "Request a course" button while the Syllabus tab is open.
3
Tap "Request this course" — add an optional note for the reviewing admin, then submit.
4
Wait for approval — an admin reviews it under Admin → Approvals → Course Requests.
5
Start using it — once approved, the course appears automatically in your Syllabus tab and Home course picker. No new login or extra step needed.
Your login itself is separate from course licensing. The invite code you used to create your account only gates sign-in — requesting and being granted new courses never changes or reissues that code.
2. Setting Up Your Class and Adding Students
A class is a group of students working through one licensed course together. Create the class first, then invite students into it by email.
Create the class
1
Open the Classes tab, then tap "+ New Class".
2
Pick the course — only courses you're licensed for appear here.
3
Name the class and set capacity — e.g. "A1 Morning", max students defaults to 15.
4
Tap Create Class — a join code is generated automatically as an alternative to an email invite.
Invite students
1
Open the class, then tap "+ Invite Student".
2
Enter their email address — that's the only field you need.
3
The student registers themselves — name, username, PIN, age range, first language. Under-18s also need a parent/guardian name and email.
4
The student ticks the BETA consent checkbox — required on the registration form itself, linking to the Student BETA Participation Notice. Under-18s are asked to check with a parent/guardian first, and the guardian's own notification email includes the same notice link.
5
The student confirms their email — a second, separate verification link is what actually enrols them. Registering alone does not.
Pending invite statuses
Invited
Email sent, student hasn't opened the registration form yet.
Awaiting verification
Student registered, but hasn't clicked the confirmation email yet — not enrolled until they do.
Expired
The invite link timed out — use Resend to send a fresh one.
You can't invite past your class's max-students limit — pending invites count against capacity the same as enrolled students. You also can't invite the same email twice, or invite someone who already has an account (they'll be pointed at the join code instead).
3. Building the Class Schedule
Set a weekly or intensive teaching pattern for a class, which automatically pins a date to every lesson. Also gives you a day/week/month calendar across all your classes.
Set up a class's schedule
1
Open the Schedule tab — you'll land on the Classes view, one card per class.
2
Tap the ⚙️ (Setup) icon on the class you want to schedule.
3
Choose a start date and mode — Weekly (recurring slots) or Intensive (Mon–Fri).
4
Set lessons per session — 1 for a single 45–60 min lesson, 2 for a double/2hr class, up to 4.
5
Add your class days and times — tap "+ Add day" for each recurring slot.
6
Tap "Save & generate plan" — pins a date to every lesson from your start date onward. Use "↻ Replan remaining from today" any time to re-date only uncovered lessons.
Lesson pacing status (Lesson Plan sheet — 📖 icon)
Locked
50% opacity
Not yet reached in the pacing plan.
Live
100% opacity
The lesson currently being taught — stands out on the calendar.
Completed
25% opacity
Already covered — fades so upcoming work stands out.
Tap a lesson to reveal Go Live / Mark Covered / Lock / Open controls — useful when you teach out of the planned order. The Day / Week / Month tabs show every class's pinned lessons at once, colour-coded by level.
Scheduling before a class exists
Tap the 📅 "Manage standalone schedules" button on the Schedule tab to block out a day/time before you've created the class it belongs to. Give it a label, day, time, and date range — link it to a class later, or leave it unlinked indefinitely.
4. Releasing Course Content
Course content isn't automatically visible to students the moment you create a class — you release each lesson when you're ready.
1
Open the class from the Classes tab.
2
Scroll to "Release Lessons", below the roster — grouped by unit.
3
Toggle a lesson to Released — students can now see it. Toggle back to Hidden any time.
What the student sees
Locked (not released)
Dimmed, grey tile, "Not yet released" badge, not clickable.
Upcoming (released)
Full colour, no badge — ready to open.
Completed
Full colour with a "Covered" checkmark badge.
This is a different system from the Locked / Live / Completed status on the Schedule tab (Section 3). Release/Hidden controls whether students can see a lesson at all — Locked/Live/Completed is just your own pacing marker. It's possible to mark a lesson "Live" while it's still Hidden — students won't see it until you release it, even if your calendar shows it as the one you're teaching. Nothing in the app currently cross-checks the two, so it's worth releasing a lesson before (or as) you mark it live.
5. Building and Presenting Live Lessons
My Lessons is where you build a slide deck to present to your class — either ahead of time, or created live, slide by slide, while you're standing in front of students.
Starting a lesson
1
Open My Lessons, then tap "+ New".
2
Choose how you want to work — Pre-build (build the full deck in advance, then present whenever you're ready) or Live (start presenting immediately and build each slide on the fly).
Slide types available
The lesson builder currently supports 15 slide types: Text, Image, Video, Audio, Divider, Import Activity, Import Conversation, Vocabulary Lookup, Tongue Twister, Vocabulary List, Word Tree, Quiz, Sentence Reorder, Essay Task, and Speech Task. Each is a simplified authoring pane compared to the full canvas builder — e.g. Quiz here is multiple-choice only, Essay/Speech Task skip rubric editing, and Vocabulary List is manual entry only (no AI generation or topic-bank linking). Use the full builder if you need those extra options.
Not yet available here: the animated Word Tree diagram (svg_scene) style module — that's still authored in the full canvas builder only.
Presenting a live-built lesson
Nothing you build during a live session reaches students automatically. Every new slide you create stays private until you tap "Show this slide" on the live bar — this is deliberate, so you can build out a slide's content before your class sees it. Tap the Projector button on the live bar to open the full cast view for your classroom screen — this is the only view that plays video, since the student join link on their own devices never shows video playback, by design. Use the shared media pickers (Upload / Library / Icons / Search) to add images to any slide.
Saving or discarding a live lesson
Live-built lessons are treated as on-the-fly by default. When you close one, you'll always be asked whether to save it to My Lessons or discard it — regardless of how much you built. If you want to reuse a live lesson later, save it explicitly; otherwise it's gone once you close it.
6. Monitoring Student Progress
The Reports tab is where you check how individual students — and whole classes — are doing.
By class and student
1
Open the Reports tab, with "Classes" selected at the top (the default).
2
Pick a class — see every student's average score, a progress bar, attempt count, and last activity date.
3
Tap a student for their full picture: CEFR level and trend, a one-line plain-English summary, attempts/average/best score, month-over-month comparison, a skills breakdown, and every attempt in full.
The numbers and summary sentence you see here are pulled from exactly the same calculation the student sees on their own Progress page — you and your student are always looking at the same figures.
By live session
Switch the Reports toggle to "Lessons" to see a history of every live presentation session you've run (Go Live), most recent first. Tap a session for a per-student summary and a full breakdown of every activity attempted during it.
"Lessons" mode only covers sessions run through the live presenter (Go Live) — it's a session-history view, unrelated to the Release Lessons or Schedule-tab status systems above.
7. Creating Activities from the Library
Turn any built-in vocabulary, grammar, or pronunciation topic into a ready-to-use activity — no manual word entry, and it's open to every teacher, not just admins.
Build from a topic
1
Open the Library tab in the left sidebar.
2
Tap a topic card — grouped by category (Numbers, Grammar, Verbs, and more), each showing its CEFR range and item count.
3
Narrow by CEFR (optional) — only offered for topics that span more than one level.
4
Pick an activity type — only types compatible with that topic's data appear (e.g. Flashcard, Multiple Choice, Gap Fill, Spelling).
5
Tap "Create Activity" — opens the builder pre-filled: title, CEFR, and the full word list already loaded from the topic.
The Library tab is open to every teacher, including BETA accounts that don't have the full Create/Build tools admins get. It's the one place a non-admin teacher can build their own activity.
Finish and save
1
Adjust the title, description, or card image if you want, then tap Save — stores it as a draft only you can see.
2
Tap "Submit for approval" when it's ready (admins see "Publish" instead, which goes live immediately). You can't edit a submitted activity while it's under review.
3
Once approved, it appears on the Activities tab for everyone with access, filterable by category and CEFR.
Draft
Saved, but only visible to you until submitted.
Pending approval
Submitted, awaiting admin review — locked from further edits.
Published
Approved and live — listed on the Activities tab.
Delivering it to students
A published library activity isn't tied to a course or lesson automatically. On its card in the Activities tab, tap "🔗 Share Link" to generate a one-off join link and open a waiting room — the same join pattern as Go Live, but for this single activity.
This share-link delivery is separate from the Release Lessons system in Section 4. Release/Hidden there controls visibility of pre-built course lessons — a library activity only reaches students via the link you generate, whenever you choose to generate it.
Looking for the Level Test? It's no longer filed under Activities — you'll find it in the Resources tab, alongside Crossword, Tongue Twisters, and the Phonetic Chart.
